The Beautiful Picture of Submission and Service, Ephesians 5:22-27
Sunday Morning Meditation, 4.6.2025
Good morning everyone!
Wives, submit to your husbands is a verse that is, to put it mildly, very controversial in our world and culture today. Yet often this imperative (v22) is separated from the context in which it is given. For one, submission does not mean slavery. And secondly, just as the God-given role of the wife is submission, the God-given role for the man is Christlike and loving service. What a weighty command when husbands are told to love their wives as Christ has loved the church! As controversial as it may be, the Biblical representation of marriage is truly beautiful and serves as a wonderful picture of our sweet relationship with God. Humble submission complemented with loving, selfless service. Just how marriage was made to be! Today in church, as we gather as the bride of Christ, may we submit to our Savior and Lord and thank Him for the ways in which He has loved us. Have a blessed time in church this morning!
Ephesians 5:22-27
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
